SECOND WAVE OF CORONA PANDEMIC IN INDIA - A WORRYING STORY 21/04/2021

21/04/2021

New Corona Cases: 2,95,041

Death:2023

Maharashtra: 62097

Death: 519

The scary part of the second wave in Corona Virus infection in the country is the speed at which the numbers are going high. Number of Corona Cases is drastically increasing day by day with death cases crossed 1000. Indian medical facility is not to the reach as the country is facing shortage of beds, Oxygen Cylinders and Ventilators. The first wave took more time to have these numbers and the second wave is just spreading like a tracer bullet that is making the public life an unsure entity.

From the last November, the numbers were decreasing and the corona positive cases were less than the daily discharging patients. With the introduction of the vaccine, the public were happy and started to vaccinate. The mistake done was not to follow the norms set during the duration of pandemic. Rules like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing just went to the dust as checking process was completely stopped. The other big reason adding to the reduction of tests, was also the elections that drastically removed the fear of Corona from the people.

The elections in five states of the country just vanished the fear in the people’s mind. They started to go out without masks and sanitizers. The neglecting factor was the social distancing in crowed places like cinema halls, Malls, Parks, elections and functions.  The major culprit is to be watched as the political rallies set by different parties in the country. This frequent movement of people from one state to another without any testing procedures also made it easy for the virus to spread all over the country and also from different parts of the world.

This irresponsible political gamble might be the big reason for the upcoming big numbers of COVID cases in the country. The Election Commission and the responsible politicians did not have a second opinion on the postponement of elections. This shows the irresponsibility of leaders from an independent party to the ruling party who had no different opinion on elections.

The most effected state is Maharashtra, with the numbers of infected crossing 50 thousand on a daily basis. Chief Minister of the state has order for a 15 days “Janata Curfew” to break this chain. In this curfew the people can’t have an easy movement without any emergency reason.

Movie Halls, Swimming pools, Parks and restaurants are to be closed in these days. Only 25 members would be allowed for a marriage ceremony. There are more restrictions that is embedded in this try for reducing the spread and numbers. States like Karnataka, Punjab, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh are also facing the hike in COVID numbers. Karnataka recorded 11265 active cases and 38 deaths, Gujarat with 7410 cases and 73 deaths, Uttar Pradesh crossing 20000 mark (i.e, 20439 cases) and 67 deaths, Madhya Pradesh recording 9720 cases and 51 deaths, Delhi with 17282 cases and 104 deaths, Chhattisgarh having 14250 new cases and 120 deceased, and finally Kerala with 8778 confirmed cases and 22 deaths.

The worrying factor in this second wave, similar to the first, is the death rates. The deceased numbers in the country has crossed 1000 which is more worrying than the number of new COVID cases. At this time there is no indication of second wave showing its end in the coming days or weeks. But, the governments are trying hard to stop this pandemic by Vaccinating people in large numbers. One more vaccine Sputnik is introduced in India for more vaccine drives.  This is considered to be a great move by the government of India and, a good response with reduction in new COVID cases is expected.

Today’s Numbers in India:

New COVID Cases: 199376

Recovery: 93418

Death: 1037

Highest – Maharashtra – 58952 Active Cases (Today) – 39624 Death – 278
