Kings XI wins the Thriller

It was a thriller finish that might have gone both the sides till the last ball of the 20th over was bowled. Punjab was batting with 5 runs to win the match from the last ball. Axar Patel faced the last ball of the innings with Faulkner being the bowler of Rajasthan Royals. Patel just missed on a six and could score only four runs that ended in a tie.

In the absence of George Bailey, the captaincy was taken by Virendra Sehwag. Punjab won the toss and elected to field first with Shaun Marsh coming back for Bailey and Miller replacing Perera. Rajasthan team started their innings well with a good opening partnership between Watson and A Rahane for the first wicket. They had a first wicket partnership of 95 with Watson falling for 45 runs who was stumped by Saha of the bowling of Axar Patel. But, Rajasthan batsmen did not stop to score runs as they made 100 runs of last 10 overs. They scored 91 runs from the first ten overs. The innings was continued Hooda and then by Karun Nair. A Rahane was dismissed after scoring 74 runs from 54 balls by hitting 6 to the boundary and 2 over the rope. Axar was the pick of the bowler for the Kings with two important wickets picked by the left arm spin bowler. The total was 191 /6 in 20 overs with the Punjab team needing 192 to win from 20 overs. Punjab team started their bad form by losing wickets early in the innings. It was Shaun Marsh who controlled the innings for the team and helped the team come out of the disaster. Kings XI were 59/3 from 8.4 overs with danger man Maxwell back to the pavilion after scoring only 1 run. The fourth wicket partnership helped the team from a collapse. Rajasthan team made a come back in the game by dismissing Marsh and Miller. At 166/6 the batting team needed another 26 runs from 2.1 overs. Morris had a good 19th over to put the Rajasthan team on the front foot with A Patel and Johnson on crease. Punjab needing 5 runs from a ball could manage only 4 runs of it and tied the match.

This became the first super over game in this year IPL. Kings XI Punjab batted first and lost the wicket of Miller in the first ball of the over by Moriis. Then Shaun Marsh continued his form by scoring 15 runs in the remaining 5 balls give the bowlers some thing to defend. It was the repetition of the first innings as Watson was bowled by Johnson of the first ball. The second ball was a no ball and it was hit for a four by Steve smith. By Faulkner’s run out ended the game with Kings XI Punjab winning the match. This ended the winning streak of Rajasthan team and received the first defeat of the tournament.
