Thalaivaa is back with an unusual mass entertainer teaming with young Pa. Ranjith who gave us a classic in movie “Madras”. The director already quoted that “KABALI is the director’s movie and not a powerful Rajinikanth’s usual flicks". This quote made the impression of the movie being scripted with a social issue in which the superstar is the main character. The movie is filled with bunch of characters that was not required which had Rajinikanth himself in it. But, Ranjith was confused about the type of movie to be made, should the movie be for commercial or classic audience. This disarray landed him in not doing mass or class. The main drawback of this movie is the antagonist of the movie Winston Chao, who does not fit in the role of Tony Lee, a Don opposite the superstar. He was used as a model, who walks, talking some Malay and English. It would be better to be stronger role for the Taiwan actor. Kishor, the hunch man is more powerful compared to the boss Tony Lee. The tricks are finished with flawlessness with no out of the crate battle that for the most part happens in a Rajini film.
The assistance to take the film further in a fascinating way was the ladies power. It demonstrated some intriguing snippets of women acting in the movie with no item numbers or undesirable romantic scenes. Radhika Apte plays the lead role opposite Rajinikanth giving her 100% to the character. The second Girl who has done the best is Dhansika as Yogi. The third girl is movie “Madras” fame Riythvika as Meena hit to the point on the given character. Expectations were high as the director was young with a movie like “Madras” to his credit. It failed to reach the expectations with the second half getting little low in narration.
The other attraction is a cameo played by an actor who is better known for his super acting and one of the best character artist's of India.
As the collection is concerned it will surely be a blockbuster with many records be broken in days to come. The worry factor for every Rajini fans is that the movie started with heavy music and style, just ended on a lost note.
To conclude, the movie is a mass entertainer for the first fifteen to twenty minutes of the movie and becomes a lazy outfit in the second half with no much hard hitting dialogues or high story narration. It was no much to show in the second half as the first half already plot's the story with no big surprises in the end.
The collection is expected to break some records as the movie tickets were sold at higher price in each center released.
I would be giving this movie 3.5 out of 5 only because of Thalaivaa and acting involving three ladies.
