The first match of the Caribbean Premier League 2015 was
played between Barbados Tridents and Guyana Amazon Warriors. The toss was won
by Barbados Tridents and the captain Pollard chose to bat first in a good
batting pitch. DR Smith and EMDY Munaweera opened the innings for the Tridents.
Openers could not give a good start as they lost their wickets early in the
innings. The middle order came to the rescue for the team as they posted a
score of 158 runs in the allotted 20 over. Pollard played a knock of 48 runs
off just 26 balls to help the team reach the score. Suniel Narine was the pick
of the bowler for the Warriors by picking two wickets and giving away 22 runs
in his four over spell.
Chasing a target of 159 runs to win the match Guyana lost
wickets early and could not capitalize on the bad start. They could score only
109 runs losing all the wickets in 18 overs. TM Dilshan scored 24 runs in the
opening slot and Hodge coming up with 26 runs off just 24 balls. It was a great
performance from the Barbados
bowlers who controlled the innings from the start of the second innings. Ravi
Rampaul took three wickets giving away 16 runs of 3 overs was the main reason
for the easy victory. He was supported by Peterson with three and Pollard with
two blows under his belt. Pollard was given the man of the match for his all
round performance.
