West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first in a bouncy
Perth pitch against the Indian team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was replaced by Mohammed
Sami who missed the match due to injury. This became a good replacement as he
started the bowling with some bounce and swing. He also picked the wicket of
Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle putting the West Indies under pressure. Wickets
started to fall as Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma started to ball some good
bouncers that controlled the innings for the Indian team. At one stage the West
Indies were reduced to 85/7 in the 25th over of the match. Young
captain of West Indies Jason Holder joined Darren Sammy with a small
partnership of 39 runs for the eighth wicket. Holder continued to hit the ball
all over the place and scored a brilliant 57 runs from 64 balls to take the teams
total to 182 from 44.2 over. He was supported by Jerome Taylor for the ninth
wicket that gave them a chance to defend the score. Mohammad Sami and Umesh
Yadav were the bowlers to pick wickets for the team. Sami took three wickets
and Yadav ended the spell with two wickets. Jadeja also ended by picking Russell
and Holder in the later part of the innings.
Fall of Wickets: 8/1 (Dwayne Smith), 15/2 (Marlon Samuels),
35/3 (Chris Gayle), 35/4 (Denesh Ramdin), 67/5(L Simmons), 71/6(J Carter), 85/7(A
Russell), 124/8(D Sammy), 175/9(Jerome Taylor), 182/10(Jason Holder)
West Indies set India a modest target of 183 to win the
match. It was not easy to score runs as the pitch has bounce and swing that
could hurt the batsmen. The start for India was bad as they lost two early
wickets. Jerome Taylor dismissed the openers early in the Innings before they
could start scoring easily, India were 20/2 after seven over as both the
openers were in pavilion under the first power play. Virat Kohli and Rahane
played a sensible innings of rotating strike and not giving any chance to the
West Indies team to get out easily. But that did not last for long as Virat
just lost his patience and was out after scoring 33 runs of the 63 the India
scored. Russell was the bowler who picks the main wicket of Kohli and went on
to take the wicket of Jadeja. The wickets started to stumble after Kohli’s
wicket. Half the Indian side was back to pavilion when the score was 107.
Jadeja and Dhoni’s partnership of 27 runs for the sixth wicket helped the team
to have a chance to reach the target. But, it was the partnership of 50 runs between
Dhoni and Ashwin changed the game for India and won the match by 4
wickets. Andre Russell and Jerome Taylor
were the two main bowlers who picked Indian wickets.
Fall of Wickets: 11/1(Shikar Dhawan), 20/2(Rohit Sharma),
Virat Kohli(63/3),78/4(A Rahane), 107/5(Suresh Raina), 134/6(Ravindra Jadeja)
India won the match by 4 wickets in Hand.
