The 36th match of the World Cup was played
between UAE and South Africa. The toss was won by UAE and elected to field
first in a good batting pitch at Wellington. South Africa lost the wicket of
Hashim Amla early in the innings put the South African team under some pressure
as he was the inform batsman with AB Devilliers. Then there were some good
partnerships between the batsmen to take the teams score to 204/4 in 36.1 over.
DeVilliers started to hit the ball to boundaries and six taking the teams total
to 257/5 in 42.2 overs. The final show was from the all rounder Farhaan
Behardien who scored 64 runs from 31 balls to help the team to reach 341/6 in
50 overs. Mohammad Naveed was the pick of the bowler for the UAE with three
wickets giving away 63 runs from his 10 overs.
Chasing a target of 342 to win the match for the first time
in World cup UAE lost the way from the start as they could not score easy runs.
Shaimam Anwar and Swapnil Patel had a small partnership between them to have a
partnership of 63 for the fourth wicket. After that wickets again started to
tumble as the South African bowlers just dismissed the middle order easily.
They ended the innings at 195/9 in 47.3 overs as Fahad was retired hurt when he
was bowling his overs. AB Devilliers who was dismissed for 99 runs from 82
balls also picked two wickets giving away 15 runs from his 3 over spell.
Behardien was the only bowler without any wicket. Morkel and Philander took two
wickets each to have good bowling show. South
Africa won the match by 146 runs to still be in the second spot in points
table.
