England played against the Bangladesh today to decide on their quarter final berth. The toss was won by the England captain and chose to field first with the ball swings in the early part of the innings. James Anderson gave a good start to the team by picking two wickets. The Bangladesh team was reduced to 8/2 in the third over of the match. SOUMYA SARKAR was joined by MAHMUDULLAH with a partnership of 86 runs for the third wicket before SARKAR was dismissed by Jordon for 40 runs in 52 balls with 5 fours and a six. SHAKIB AL HASSAN could not score big in this match as he was out for 2 runs of the bowling of M ALI. MUSHFIQUR RAHIM came to the crease and started to play a steady innings to have a partnership of 141 runs for the fifth wicket with the inform MAHMUDULLAH who scored a century. This took the team to reach 275 runs losing seven wickets in 50 over. Anderson and Jordan took two wickets each were the pick of the bowlers for English team.
England team opened the innings with IAN BELL and MOEEN ALI
giving them a good start by having a partnership of 43 between the openers under
8 over. ALI was run out after scoring 19 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours. A
Hales came to bat after the fall of the opener’s wicket and also had a good
partnership of 54 runs for the second wicket. The Bowlers came to the show by picking some important
wickets in the middle. The team was reduced to 163 for 6 in 35.4 over and
needed another 112 runs to win with four wickets remaining. JOS BUTTLER and
CHRIS WOAKES started to play their shorts and help the team to reach near the
target. After the wicket of BUTTLER it became difficult for the chasing England
team loosing wickets in regular intervals and was dismissed for 260 runs in the
49th over of the match. RUBEL HOSSAIN was the pick of the bowler and
man of the hour picking 4 wickets and dismissing the tail in the last over to
help the team win the battle and qualify for the Quarterfinals. But, Man of the
match was given to MAHMUDULLAH for his century.
