The Cauvery Supervisory Committee in a meeting on Monday requested Karnataka to discharge another 3,000 cusecs of water every day from the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam for 10 days. This is added to the 12,000 cusecs of water order give by supreme court till 20 September. Union Water Resources Secretary Shashi Shekhar, who is one of the board member, said he had requested Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water every day from the KRS Dam, yet neither Karnataka nor Tamil Nadu loved the request. At last, Karnataka has been requested to release an aggregate of another 3,000 cusecs consistently for more than 10 days, said Shashi Shekhar. The Supreme Court request is for Karnataka to discharge 12,000 cusecs of water till 20 September, the request is from 21 to 30 September. The Supreme Court had, on 5 September, requested Karnataka to discharge 15,000 cusecs of water every day more than 10 days to Tamil Nadu, regardless of Karnataka guaranteeing prior that it was confronting water emergency. The court, a few days after the verdict, altered its request and solicited Karnataka to discharge 12,000 cusecs from Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu consistently until 20 September, 2016. This did not happen and the new solution to this issue is to release total of 15000 cuses of water from 21st September 2016 to 30th September 2016.
